Wedding Food

Scenes from our wedding menu tasting this afternoon. Please excuse some less-than-amazing iPhone photos. They don't come close to doing the food justice. It was surreal getting to taste the food that will be served at our wedding. Our very-real wedding that is coming up in just a handful (6) of weeks.

We were hoping to find a balance between healthy food with decent vegetarian options and yummy comfort food that makes everyone feel at ease, as if they were sitting down to dinner in the comfort of their own home. I guess we'll find out if we were successful come July!

Tell me: if you're married, what type of food did you serve at your wedding? And if you're not, what is the most memorable wedding food you've ever eaten?

Have a happy weekend, all!

Madison

Unfortunately, I can hardly call any wedding food I've ever eaten "memorable" in a good way, but I will say that if you have any authentic international roots, bringing a touch or flair with a nod towards your heritage is always a nice touch, especially if you have a favorite dish that the catering company can recreate/offer. Other than that, all I have to say is that those salads look divine! :D

It all looks delicious!

We had an outdoor wedding, very casual, and our food was an extension of both those things. We had salad, fruit, sauteed green beans, roasted chicken, pulled pork, andddd I can't remember what else.
And our wedding cake? Alternating layers of chocolate and spice cake. Ahhh-mazing :)

That is so exciting! We didn't get to taste any food before our menu but we did get to design the whole menu which was fun:-) Our place did a fantastic job. My favorite part was dessert- it was a massive room filled with desserts including an ice cream bar, bananas flambe and funnel cake:-)

I got married on a Sunday afternoon so I decided on Sunday brunch. Strangely the only thing I remember from the menu were eggs benedict and mimosas but there was lots more food!

Megan - your menu sounds amazing! I hope ours turns out half as wonderful.

Lauren - Of course you would have lots of desserts! I would expect nothing less. :) The ice cream bar sounds like so much fun!

Carol - We are having mimosas, too! Perfect for a daytime wedding. LOVE that you got married in the morning!

all of your choices look delicious and probably well-liked by a crowd. for our wedding, we had similar ideas: a few big salads, a baked ziti, a carving station, some kind of potatoes, a variety of veggies and bread. everything was tasty and accommodated our guests.

that all looks delicious! we had a bit of a baseball theme to our reception, so the food was casual with burgers, fries, nachos, popcorn, and then had cake and chocolate dipped cheesecake for dessert! definitely nothing fancy but we still have people coming up to us saying it was the most fun they'd ever had at a wedding!

It all looks delicious and I'm sure your guests will enjoy every morsel. We had a simple brunch following our ceremony. It was a buffet and salmon was the star. There were three types of salmon and appropriate light sides to go with each type. It was very nice. Sparkling wine was the only alcohol we served. I'm relatively new to your blog and don't often comment. I think you hit a receptive chord today :-). Have a wonderful weekend. Blessings...Mary

I have been married for two months now. At our wedding we had a casual reception. We served mostly finger foods of chicken satay, fresh fruit salad, assortment of cheeses/meats/crackers, mini quiches, baked macaroni and cheese balls, fresh rolls. I never even got to have a bit of any of it! Although the photos I got back of the food from the photgrapher look amazing! Oh and the cake of course! It was a three layer cake- lemon on top layer, raspberry in the middle, and chocolate with a chocolate mousse on the bottom layer with a marshmallow fondant.

Your food looks amazing! Thanks for sharing your wedding details on your blog. We love knowing how the planning is coming along. :)

We went with a buffet style meal with fajitas, enchiladas and chips, salsa and guacamole. It was a HUGE hit! We still have people come up to us and tell us how good the food was!

yum, strawberries on salads are my favorite! those green beans look really tasty too.

for our wedding last summer we went for a vegetarian indian food buffet (because yum!), plus gnocci and ravioli with tomato or pesto sauce for the less adventurous folks (or anyone who likes pasta). it was all vegetarian, with vegan and gluten free options, and really delicious!

We did an itty bitty wedding, so could be a bit more extravagant on the food, and for us that was the right trade-off!

Having been to a lot of weddings, I will say that weddings never, ever have food that is memorable for being good. Pick a meal that will hold up decently well after sitting in steam trays for an hour or being reheated after drying out a little... it will never be as good as what they tease you with.

And, since we all tend to photograph our food these days, I say go for what's prettiest! :-)

I know you're a vegetarian and I don't eat much meat myself, but we had chicken cordon bleu. A chicken cordon bleu that we still talk about on a regular basis...almost two years later! It was definitely a crowd pleaser. I have a version of it on my blog, but I can only imagine the buttery, cheesey goodness that went into the dish at our wedding :)
